International Battery CEO a featured speaker at KEMA Utility of the Future Leadership Forum 2011
Dr. Ake Almgren to share insights on advanced energy storage and a smart, sustainable energy future

BURLINGTON, Mass. (May 24, 2011) – International Battery Chief Executive Officer Ake Almgren will be a featured speaker at KEMA’s fourth annual Utility of the Future Leadership Forum, “Shaping the Future.” Almgren will be part of a senior executive panel discussion on integrating new energy technologies into a smarter, more sustainable energy future at the KEMA forum, June 6-8, 2011, at The Four Seasons, Denver, Colo.

Almgren will share insights into the roles and opportunities for advanced energy storage systems, including deploying renewable energy technologies within a smart grid and energy storage as a system regulation service. He will join senior executives from Boeing Energy, Duke Energy, and Siemens Energy for the panel session, “Integrating New and Ever-Changing Technologies” on Tuesday, June 7.

“The already complex electric power grid becomes even more challenging as greater levels of intermittent renewable energy are introduced,” said Almgren. “As our energy system expands beyond the traditional centralized generation paradigm to include more intermittent and renewable energy, more distributed energy, as well as demand response, system planning and operations face an environment with more uncertainties.

Energy storage systems, along with smart meters, are key devices not only to deal with the challenges, but also to enable the opportunities of a smart, sustainable energy future. Advanced batteries will help expand the portfolio of energy storage technologies.”

The 2011 Utility of the Future Leadership Forum features one and one-half days of discussion about industry game changers; new business models; and the changing roles of utilities, customers, and suppliers. Executive-level panel discussions will focus on CEOs’ views of the future utility: the road to sustainability, gas as part of the smart grid paradigm, the integration of new and ever-changing technologies, and consumer and ‘prosumer’ engagement. Throughout the forum, there will be high-level networking opportunities to share perspectives, collaborate, and engage in dialog.

Senior executives are invited to join their peers in Utility of the Future discussions to share ideas and discover opportunities to shape a more sustainable, reliable, profitable utility of the future.
